Engineering Technician

We have immediate full-time openings for Engineering Technicians in the Upstate Area. The assignments will be performed under the immediate supervision of a registered professional engineer. The primary responsibilities generally consist of construction quality assurance and quality control at various commercial, industrial, and residential construction projects. Responsibilities include monitoring general contractor activities, onsite testing and reporting of earthwork and soil construction, concrete placement as well as asphalt and laboratory testing. Daily reports are to be prepared for submission to the project engineer and consist of descriptions of construction site observations and summaries of test results. Company vehicle and all safety equipment are provided.

Preferred Experience/Certifications:

  • ACI
  • NICET
  • ICC Certification in Soils Special Inspector

Requirements:

  • Valid Driver's License and ability to authorize our review of a motor vehicle driving record for the past 7 years.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work use hand tools and testing apparatuses.
  • Ability to pass drug screening.
  • Ability to walk or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors on construction sites in all seasons for extended time periods and work days of up to 12 hours per day.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge in the operation of smart phones and computers for communication and recording time worked.

Environmental Due Diligence Consultant

BLE is seeking an Environmental Due Diligence Consultant to join our team in Greenville, SC. The main responsibility of the role is to provide technical environmental consulting services on due diligence transaction projects for local, regional, and national clients. Responsibilities

Perform environmental (and limited health and safety) due diligence projects for corporate, industrial, and commercial transactions, including compliance with ASTM E1527-13.

  • Provide consulting advice to corporate, financial, and legal clients.
  • Design and implement Phase II ESA and Brownfields site assessments, including performance of field work and sampling activities.
  • Perform EHS compliance assessments at industrial and commercial facilities, and implement follow-up corrective actions to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Prepare concise reports that assess potential EHS risks, and compliance and operational status.
  • Provide general EHS compliance support to clients, including on site, as needed.
  • Perform multiple projects concurrently within strict timeframes, scope/budget expectations, and meet high quality standards on project deliverables.
  • Support BLE Principals and Project Managers to effectively manage projects.
  • Communicate with clients, BLE employees, and vendors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geology, environmental science, or related discipline.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in environmental consulting, working on environmental due diligence projects.
  • Solid knowledge of E1527-13, understanding of core business and legal concepts of business transactions, and continued interest in working on transactions.
  • Limited health and safety experience a plus, but not essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and organizational skills; experience writing comprehensive technical reports.
  • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Local candidates preferred.

Geotechnical Technician

We have immediate full-time openings for Geotechnical Technicians to serve as the owner/design team on-site construction quality assurance representative for projects located in the southeastern USA. The assignments will be performed under the immediate supervision of a registered professional engineer. The primary responsibilities generally consist of construction quality assurance monitoring of various environmentally regulated solid waste landfill construction projects. Responsibilities include monitoring general contractor activities, onsite testing and reporting of earthwork and soil construction as well as geosynthetic base liner, closure cap, piping and gas extraction systems for solid waste landfills. Daily reports are to be prepared for submission to the project engineer via computer and consist of descriptions of construction site observations, summaries of test results, sketches of site work and photographs. Company vehicle, mobile field office equipment and allowances for travel living expenses are provided.

  • Experience or education as a Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) Engineering Technician
  • Proven record of responsible and reliable work
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic arithmetic skills
  • Basic knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office programs such as Excel and Word as well as creating and emailing pdfs and photos.
  • Basic knowledge in the operation of smart phones for communication of verbal and scanned documents by email.
  • Ability to work on construction site as the individual CQA representative or as a part of a small on-site team.
  • Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record.
  • Physical abilities required to meet project demands include:
  • Ability to walk on the order of 6 miles per day with portions on slopes of up to 3 horizontal to 1 vertical slopes and carry up to 50 lbs. in buckets for distances up to 50 feet.
  • Ability to work outdoors on construction sites in all seasons for extended time periods and work days of up to 12 hours per day.
  • Ability to drive up to 8 hours for job site mobilizations.
  • Ability to use hand tools and testing apparatuses.

  • Undergraduate or Technical degree in related Engineering or Construction fields
  • ACI Certification

Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Bunnell-Lammons, Inc. (BLE) is a leading, engineering, environmental and multi-disciplined professional services firm. BLE is seeking Project and Senior Geotechnical Engineers to join our team in Greenville, SC. The main responsibility of the role is to provide geotechnical analyses of slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, seismic conditions, deep foundation options, seepage and drainage, earthwork volume calculations, excavations techniques, earth retaining structures, pavement design and development of geotechnical design parameters based on subsurface exploration and laboratory test data. The scope of assignments will range from initial client interaction for scope – fee development, monitoring and oversight of subsurface explorations and laboratory testing of soils, geotechnical analysis and report preparation, client follow-up and on-site monitoring of geotechnical construction.

Responsibilities

  • Geotechnical analyses related to new or expanding landfill facilities including settlement, slope stability, seepage, evaluation of geosynthetic liner, leachate collection and closure cap materials, , drainage layer analyses and filtering.
  • Subsurface explorations by soil test borings, CPT, Geoprobe and geophysical methods of site conditions for use in geotechnical evaluation and analysis. Select, locate and quantify low permeability soils, high permeability soils, soils suitable for structural fill, and geotechnical drilling to identify rock and groundwater.
  • Construction Quality Assurance responsibilities from pre-construction to monitoring, sampling, and testing completion and reports to state regulatory agencies during landfill construction projects.
  • Implements technical requirements to complete client projects by directing field staff to sample, test, and collect data and/or document on-site activities at various client sites.
  • Evaluates routine laboratory and field data for inclusion in reports.
  • Performs calculations using engineering formulas and skills.
  • Prepares reports and correspondence regarding the direction of assigned projects.
  • Provide oversight and knowledge transfer to staff level engineers.
  • Manage client relations.
  • A variety of field and office assignments should be expected.

 

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in geotechnical engineering consulting, project management, geostructure design, or solid waste landfill CQA.
  • Master’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • Professional Engineering license
  • Specific experience in southeastern states or similar geologic setting
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with variety of geotechnical analysis, evaluations, and calculations
  • Experienced in client and project management.
  • Working proficiency in Autocad LT and Civil3D.
  • Experienced assigning and interpreting laboratory tests on soils, concrete, and other common materials
  • Experience providing verbal and written recommendations, producing reports, calculations, technical figures, charts, drawings, and specifications.
  • Field experience and familiarity with construction sites
  • Field experience and familiarity with geotechnical drilling, instrumentation, and field testing of soils and other construction materials
  • Self-motivation and ability to manage time and priorities.
  • Ability to complete projects and tasks on an individual basis, as well as work collaboratively as part of a project team.
  • Experienced and capable of developing and nurturing client relationships, and pursuing potential clients or project opportunities
  • History and interest in continued involvement in professional / industry organizations
